The purchase decision
Choose the Bambino if you want manual milk texturing, or if automatic milk preparation is not something you intend to use. Consider the Plus if you want selectable automatic milk temperature and foam settings. The Plus also permits manual texturing, so choosing it does not remove that option. These are decision rules based on documented controls, not conclusions about taste, reliability or the quality of a drink made on either machine.
| Decision point | Bambino | Bambino Plus | Why it changes the choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milk control | Manual texturing. | Automatic or manual texturing. | The Plus offers automation; the Bambino is the lower-priced route if you prefer to control the process yourself. Sources: Bambino product page; Plus product page. |
| Automatic milk settings | No automatic milk temperature or foam selector listed. | Three temperature settings and three foam settings. | The Plus manual names the temperature choices Warm, Ideal and Hot, and the foam choices Low, Medium and High. These are named settings, not temperatures we have measured. Sources: GB product page; Plus manual, p. 6. |
| Supplied portafilter | 54 mm aluminium. | 54 mm stainless steel. | This identifies what is supplied. Material alone does not establish a better extraction or longer service life. Sources: Bambino manual, p. 9; Plus manual, p. 6. |

What automatic milk texturing does not decide
The Plus manual describes a milk-jug temperature sensor and automatic texturing controls. Those features support a narrower claim than “better milk”: the machine has controls for a task the Bambino asks the user to perform manually. They do not prove that the result will suit your milk, drink preference or pouring technique. Read the Plus manual's automatic and manual texturing instructions before deciding whether that division of work appeals to you.
If you already want to hold and position the jug throughout steaming, the Bambino's manual approach is not a missing feature you necessarily need to fix. If you specifically want the automatic option, the Plus is the machine in this pair whose documentation offers it. The decision is about how you want to make the drink, not a ranking of your ability.
The shared specification is not a tested tie
Both current GB product pages describe a ThermoJet heating system, a 54 mm portafilter, low-pressure pre-infusion and extraction at nine bar. Both list single-wall and dual-wall filter baskets. Those shared specifications do not establish identical cup results, noise, durability or performance across repeated drinks. Sage's stated extraction pressure is also not a pressure measurement made by this site. See the Bambino and Plus product sources for the manufacturer statements.
Sage advertises a three-second heating claim for both the Bambino and Bambino Plus (GB product pages, checked 16 September 2026). That wording concerns the heating system reaching extraction temperature. It is not our measured time from an empty basket to a finished drink, and it does not account for your grinding, preparation or milk routine. It therefore supplies no reason, on its own, to rank one of these two machines above the other.
The manuals explain using ground coffee in filter baskets. Budget for the way you will prepare that coffee rather than treating the machine price as the whole setup. If the terms are still unfamiliar, work through the basic preparation choices before deciding which milk controls to pay for.
Check these before paying
- The exact listing and finish. Recheck the retailer's current price, stock and supplied accessories. This comparison records the GB listings accessed on the stated date; it does not cover every regional bundle.
- Actual space at home. We have not used the published dimensions to make a fit recommendation. The dimension order on the listings needs clarification before it can support one. Ask the supplier for the machine's width, depth, height and working clearances for the exact model you are buying.
- Care obligations. Automatic texturing does not make maintenance disappear. Use the model-specific reminders to separate milk-wand care from cleaning and descaling. Do not transfer a button sequence from one Bambino model to the other.
- Your electricity assumptions. A shared heater label is not a comparative running-cost test. You can put your own usage and tariff into a cost scenario, but we do not have measured energy data that establishes which of this pair costs less to run.
Source record and limits
Checked 16 September 2026. Product descriptions and specifications below are manufacturer statements. The manuals identify the document versions used; a newer manual or a different model label takes precedence over this snapshot. There are no affiliate links on this page.

- Sage Bambino manual, SES450 UK UG1 G21. Printed/PDF pp. 9–11 identify the components, baskets and manual texturing; the operating section describes coffee preparation.

The remaining question is concrete: do you want automatic milk control often enough to pay for it? If yes, that is the documented reason to consider the Plus. If not, its name alone is not a reason to move beyond the Bambino.
