Plan your first home espresso setup
If you are choosing between the Bambino and Bambino Plus, decide whether you want automatic milk controls before comparing their names or buying accessories. Then check how you will prepare the coffee, what your water requires and which care tasks belong to that model.
This decision route draws on BaristaCritic's published guides and electricity-calculator code, inspected on 27 September 2026. Their manufacturer-source dates remain the dates shown on those guides, not a new check today. We have not used or tested any of the equipment on this site.

Write down the setup you are considering
Start a shortlist with the exact model and the offer in front of you. Keep unanswered questions visible rather than filling them with assumptions:
- Do you want to texture milk manually, or use automatic controls?
- Will you grind whole beans or buy pre-ground coffee?
- What is included in this particular machine package?
- What can you spend on the machine, coffee preparation and care together?

Choose the job you want automated
For the Bambino pair, compare the documented milk controls. If you want selectable automatic milk controls, the Plus is the documented option in this pair; if you want only manual texturing, start with the Bambino. This is a choice of controls, not a verdict on taste, reliability or electricity use. The comparison's Sage GB prices are dated snapshots, so check the actual offer before paying.
Match the basket to your coffee
Before choosing a grinder, check Sage's basket guidance for your coffee. That reference covers the Bambino and Bambino Plus manuals' distinction between freshly ground beans and pre-ground coffee, and keeps wall type separate from cup capacity. It is not a grinder comparison or evidence that an upgrade will improve your drinks.
Check the supply, not just the word filtered
Get your water supplier's hardness information with its units, then compare it with the applicable machine instructions. Use the supply-hardness and jug-filter limits to separate BRITA cartridge replacement from machine-water suitability. The guide does not certify your tap water or a jug's output for your chosen machine.
Match the model, market and manual revision. A familiar name or similar control panel is not enough to transfer a procedure.
Before you buy
Can you identify the care obligation?
- For the Barista Express, Bambino or Bambino Plus, separate cleaning, descaling and filter care. The named manuals do not supply a shared annual parts-replacement timetable.
- Before choosing a descale interval or starting a cycle, read the model-specific timings and unresolved warnings. That reference includes the Classic E24 and identifies gaps in Sage's numbered hardness guidance and apparent conflicts in its tank instructions.
If you cannot establish the applicable Sage hardness level or reconcile the tank instructions, ask Sage before proceeding. Do not invent an interval or a rinse sequence. Internal repairs belong with a qualified repairer.

Keep electricity separate from the purchase budget
Already have a machine? Use measured kWh over recorded whole days and your tariff to cost that observation. Before buying, an entered wattage and use time can only form a constant-power scenario, not establish the machine's real consumption. Neither mode ranks models by efficiency; the tool excludes coffee, care products and purchase costs.

Can the Bambino comparison confirm a kitchen fit?
No. It leaves the listings' dimension order unresolved. Ask the supplier for width, depth, height and working clearances for the exact model, then compare them with your available space.
Does a listed accessory prove it is in this offer?
No. The comparison records the named manufacturer's package, not every used machine or retailer bundle. Ask the seller to confirm the included baskets, portafilter and tamper, and read the offer's return and warranty terms before paying.
