Match the model before the light
Choose the exact model below, then match which controls light up, whether they flash together or alternately, and what the machine was doing. These are selected documented indicators, not every possible fault or a ranking of how often faults occur.

Regional limit: the Gaggia rows apply to that named EU manual. They are not a verified match for every UK-sold Classic, Classic Pro or other Gaggia model. Check the model label and the instructions supplied with your machine. A different display or button layout needs its own manual.
Sage Barista Express SES875

The Plus manual disagrees on the purge-button hold
Under Steam Wand Purging, p. 13 says to press and hold the STEAM button for 5 seconds
with the wand lowered. For flashing froth and temperature lights, p. 21 says Press and hold steam button for 3 seconds to purge the system.
Both passages were checked on 20 September 2026.
Those instructions give different hold times. The passages cover general purging and a troubleshooting response; the manual does not explain whether that context accounts for the difference. This reference does not choose one or average them. Ask Sage to confirm the applicable instruction for your machine and this manual edition if you need to clear that alert. No steam-tip dismantling instructions are reproduced here.
For the separate question of which care cycle a reminder names, compare cleaning with descaling for your Sage model. That distinction should come before choosing a cleaning procedure.
Gaggia Classic E24: operating lamps, not a shared error-code list
Gaggia names a power indicator, coffee-temperature light and steam-temperature light in its control key. The selected passages below describe operating states. Its malfunction table is symptom-based; it does not supply a numbered lamp-fault code list for these rows. Do not transfer codes from an automatic Gaggia machine to this Classic E24.

The lamp names are in Gaggia's control key, printed p. 13, PDF p. 17. For symptoms such as no brewing or excessive water loss, use its malfunction table, printed p. 20, PDF p. 24, rather than inventing a code from the lamps.
If the pattern is not listed
An unmatched pattern remains unidentified. Note the exact model, the controls involved, whether they flash together or alternately, and whether this began at start-up, during a shot, during steaming or during a care cycle. Give that description to the manufacturer's support service. A short recording can preserve a sequence that is difficult to describe.
Do not open the machine, work on mains wiring or bypass a safety cut-out. Internal faults belong with a qualified repairer. This lookup does not diagnose overheating or prescribe repeated resets.
